Rude Britannia!

Tate Britain wants your fanzines
Help us curate the reading room of the Rude Britannia exhibition with an array of humorous fanzines, comics and home made publications.
Rude Britannia: British Comic Art celebrates all that is comical, satirical, political, absurd and bawdy in British art from 1600s to today and we would like you to respond to these themes.
The best fanzines will be selected by curator Cedar Lewisohn and placed in the exhibition space for a period of time. Please only send publications that you think are funny.
We will notify you if your publication has been selected, but we cannot commit to sending your publication back to you.
Please send your publication and an SAE and email address to;
Cedar Lewisohn

Art Quest
July 2, 2010
At Futurising 2010 organised by LCC, I met Art Quest and they run this fantastic website with the How-tos for artists who want to make some money out of their work. They teach you extremely useful things like setting up an artist-led space and all things related with money which can be extremely taxing for an artist to handle.
We think its a lovely site with many life-saver points so do check it out!
We had such a lovely time at Jet’s ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ Market! Lovely people, lovely gifts, lovely cakes…

Book du Jour visit The Netherlands!
June 1, 2010
Recently BDJ travelled by train to The Netherlands to view the special collections at the National library in The Hague and to soak up some book arts culture in Amsterdam.
In Amsterdam we visited Nina Judin who is a professional binder and book artist working mostly in organic materials to create beautiful and unique books. Nina made us coffee and biscuits in her studio and let us pat her dog while she showed us her books and talked about how she came to be a book artist. Nina’s lovely studio is on Dusartstraat and there is a little shop in the front window selling artists creations.
Boekie Woekie and Cortina Papier are stores in Amsterdam that we had to see and so should you! Boekie Woekie is an extensive artist run bookstore selling limited addition books by artists from all over the world. Every surface of the shop is covered in artist’s books produced and printed every way you can and probably can’t image. We literally spent hours exploring this paper terrain and none of us left without a souvenir from this very inspiring shop.
Cortina Papier is a stationary shop also selling beautiful gift-wrapping paper we knew would be ideal for bookbinding! We bought so much back to London with us it has given us the idea to organise a paper swishing event…watch this page!
The Hague houses The National Library of the Netherlands. We organised to view their collection of bindings, modern typography and illustrated children’s books as a group from Central Saint Martins. The library collection is housed in a spacious modern building with a tranquil atmosphere perfect for researching.
Rens Top is the curator of the bindings collection and he was also our guide for the day. He presented to us a carefully chosen selection of historical and contemporary bindings from around the world that illustrated to us the continual potential of bookbinding to progress through its relationship to the technology and materials of the time.
Following on we me Paul van Capelleveen another special collections curator who talked us through highlights of the modern typography collection. We were privy to a limited addition collaboration with Pablo Picasso amongst many other arresting examples of experimental typography and printmaking.
As well we were shown a beautiful selection of illustrated children’s books by children’s book curator Jeannette Kok. Special attention was paid to the Dutch tradition and we enjoyed stunning examples spanning time up to the 2010 Bologna Children’s book fair.
The trip wasn’t all about books although we wouldn’t mind if it was we also did some tourist biking and seeking out obscurely placed cats. Book du Jour’s Netherlands trip was a success thanks to the research and planning of Sarah! And the generosity and hospitality of our Dutch friends : )

Hello world!
May 9, 2010
We are Book du Jour!
Consisting of Sarah, Anett and Helen, we are a group of three artists/friends who enjoy using our hands to create. We are graduating from Central Saint Martins this year and hope that Book du Jour is going to be a fantastic journey for us!
The term Book du Jour was coined by our bookbinding tutor Douglas when he asked us ‘What is the Book du Jour?’ during a period where we were learning a new bookbinding every week.
Look out for our stall as we debut at the London Zine Symposium this Saturday! We are selling some delightful objects which we will be posting up in the next couple of days.
